God’s Timing
This is a first. I’m typing in the front seat of a van. It’s a test, because normally this sort of thing makes me car sick. I was excited to see the laptop nearby and the girls are slowly drifting off to sleep so I picked it up and here we go. Our family has been driving for seven hours today and just made our last stop at a Buckee’s while headed towards Nashville.
Tomorrow morning Michael and I will attend a conference together. We’ve never done something like this before. I signed up the week before Selah was born six months ago. It feels like forever ago, and I’m sorta grateful to Alison of the past, but also shaking my head at her crazy ambitions.
This past July I visited Nashville for a mini high school reunion with friends. One very special afternoon, I was all alone and had time to wander so I stepped into a bead shop called the little words project. The walls were covered from head to toe with beaded words pre-made to your fancy. I scanned the walls and decided to pay attention to each word and see which one stood out the most to me. “God’s Timing” – that’s the one. The pull was so strong that I bought it right then and there.
God’s timing is never what we think it should be. Some people joke that God is always on time. We hurry, we worry, we try to make everything work out just as we please but that’s not the reason it stood out to me this time. Instead, the bracelet reminds me to rest in the truth that God is sovereign. In control and all knowing. It reminds me that there are seasons, and the one I am in is important no matter how difficult, invisible, or small it may seem. The everyday mundane of being a stay at home mom with tiny humans running around, is my season. I get to choose, to rest in God’s timing or worry myself silly about the future. Somehow, this little tiny bracelet does the trick of reminding me to be fully here, now.
